Impact Wrestling 2/21/13…We Get Our Lockdown Main Event….Finally

Tonight, The Road to Lockdown makes its conclusion to London, England. Last week, we were left in suspense over who gets the World Title shot against Jeff Hardy at Lockdown.

Hulk Hogan makes his way to the ring, as Mike Tenay, Todd Kenneley, and Taz welcome us to the show.

Hogan said it’s great to be here in London, it feels home right here. Even though Aces and 8′s ruined his big announcement last week of deciding who gets to face Jeff Hardy at Lockdown for the World Heavyweight Title, it gave him an extra week to truly figure out who gets the opportunity. So he is rewarding this shot to the one man who has stood behind TNA, and that man is Bully Ray.

Even Bully Ray questions this, because he has been hurt. He knows that 8 other men had earned that opportunity, and Hogan calls Bully Ray the toughest SOB in the company, for working despite his hurt Quad. So Bully Ray appreciates this opportunity, and promises to take the title from Hardy, and win it for Brooke, Dad.

You can do it, brother.

Bully tells us there are other business matters at hand. Namely Aces and 8′s. So he proposes a big 6-man tag match for our main event. Any 3 members of Aces and 8′s face the team of Bully Ray, Sting, and one more man. Who could that be?

None other than Hulk Hogan.

Hogan agrees, and our match is made, later tonight.

Backstage, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries are getting prepared for their big 8-man tag match. Bad Influence approach them and congratulate them for winning the Tag Team Titles. They would have done it, but Daniels was focused on the World Title. Kazarian is the mater, while Daniels is the ring general, so just follow their lead. Kaz reminds Roode of Fortune, like old times.

For some reason the Tag Team Champions do not like that idea.

The big 8-man tag match is next.

Bobby Roode and Austin Aries, teaming up with Bad Influence will take on Hernandez, Chavo, “Cowboy” James Storm, and Joseph Park, now.

Tenay confirms that it will be Hardy Vs Bully Ray, for the World Heavyweight Title, inside a steel cage at Lockdown.

Chavo, Hernandez, Storm, and Park win with a Frogsplash, Chavo pinning Kazarian, when Roode and Aries walk out on their partners tonight.

We see the carnage taking place the last few weeks with British Boot Camp, and Rockstar Spud feuding with Robbie E.

Their epic match, Spud’s in-ring TNA debut is now.

Rockstar Spud wins the match with a roll up. Robbie T, who is still in the ring with Robbie, he now blames T for losing the match. He slapped him, and that was not a good idea. The List is down the on the ground, off goes the shirt, Robbie E. bails, so T can give us a dance.

Still to come, Hogan, Bully, and Hogan will face Devon, Mr. Anderson, and D.O.C.

Still to come, RVD puts his X-Division Title on the line, and we will get a Knockout Fatal 4-Way Elimination match, next.

Still to come, our big main event. It will be Aces and 8s face the team of Bully Ray, Sting, and Hulk Hogan.

Big Knockout Fatal-4 Way match for the Knockouts Title. Velvet Sky Vs Gail Kim Vs Miss Tessmacher Vs Tara, in an elimination match.

Tara is the first to be eliminated with an In Your Face by Velvet Sky, and Gail rolled her up for the win.

There will be a new Knockout Champion.

Brooke Tesmacher was eliminated by Gail Kim, so now we are down to the final 2 women.

Velvet Sky wins the Knockout Title, with an In Yo Face by Velvet, pinning Gail.

A great moment by Velvet, becoming the Knockout Champion for the second time.

Earlier tonight, we see Bully Ray being named the Number One Contender to the World Heavyweight Title, and will now face Hardy at Lockdown. But tonight, a big 6-man tag match is set for the main event.

We are backstage, Hogan tells Sting he is ready to go. Sting assures Bully everything is good, and Bully loves this moment, tagging with Sting, and Hogan.

Next week, we ill get an update on AJ Styles, in Gainesville, Georgia, and now we get to see Garrett Bischoff Vs Samoa Joe.

Garrett is DQ’d when Briscoe came down to help his good friend, and here comes Kurt Angle.

Kurt is the one who gave Wes the contract, and he is glad he did. At Lockdown, it will be Briscoe Vs Angle, inside a steel cage. It’s real, damn real.

Kenny King Vs Rob Van Dam, X-Division Title match is up next.

X-Division Title match is up now.

RVD wins with the Five-Star Frogsplash, retaining his X-Division Title.

Hogan said there is no turning back, he will be protected, saying that to Brooke. The eye of the Tiger, our big 6-man main event match is next.

Jeff Hardy video stating he and Bully Ray will have the greatest steel cage match in the history of TNA. The creatures make their return next week.

Our big main event match, Devon, Mr. Anderson, and D.O.C. will face Sting, Bully Ray, and the returning Hulk Hogan, now.

Hogan is not out for the match.

Aces and 8′s win, pinning Sting. They had Hulk and Brooke before the match, Bully goes after everyone, and Sting is left by himself, while the numbers games take over. The show ends with Aces and 8′s celebrate.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

I hated to see how Bully Ray received the title shot, when those 8 wrestlers worked hard to try to earn their shot too. I wished they had done it in a different way, because those matches last week mean nothing. And to make matters worst, they promoted throughout the show that Hulk Hogan was going to wrestle, only to not be involved in the match, which has me wondering, is Brooke behind this with Aces and 8′s? Could she and Bully be the brains behind this? Brooke and brains are a bad combination, I know, but there is something disturbing about how she laid it into her father last week to lay off Bully, and “loosen up”, even though he is the General Manager.

The Road to Lockdown has been as “thrilling” as the Road to Wrestlemania, and we only have two weeks of TV. Which means they are down the home stretch here, and they must kick it up a few notches. We know the next two weeks will be live, which is good, but we are back in The Impact Zone, which means no reactions at all.

But on to the matches here.

Good 8-man tag, and it adds a bit to Bad Influence and Aries and Roode having issues with each other, I would have to think those four, with Chavo and Hernandez will be added to the PPV.

A big win for Velvet Sky, becoming the Knockout Champion for a second time, but keep it on her for a while, and not just a month.

King Vs RVD was fine, but RVD needs to start seeing a true challenger to the title, and I am not sure if that’s the direction they are heading with Kenny King.

I truly liked Joe Vs Garrett for some reason. It made sense seeing Briscoe and Angle come out, and now we have Angle Vs Briscoe set for the PPV. I also look for Garrett and Joe to be involved in the Lethal Lottery pick.

The main event was a mess though, because the Hogans distracted anything that was taking place in the ring.

Either way, the next two weeks in the states has to deliver, since TNA is cutting down to 4 PPVs a year. Make this worth every penny, no Open Fight Night or anything like that, just a straight up build to Lockdown.

I’ll be FFDing through the British guy and Robbie E or whatever..

SO happy for Velvet..I agree..let’s see her in some matches with Tessmacher and others to get some rivalries going for once..

I’m about two weeks behind on Impact so I will have more in depth comments to make once I’ve actually watched the stuff..wonder how they say goodbye to the Impact Zone…since they’re going to be a real wrestling company and hit the road..

The four PPVs is a good idea..its how WWE started..

Maybe AJ will have something of merit to say next week…

    • Yeah I want to see the AJ piece myself. He can always say that TNA forced him into that stipulation, and now he is doing things for himself. They really dropped the ball when he was alligned with Flair. They never should have made him into Mini-Flair, but rather “The Franchise” and just let him roll with it. Hopefully they change it up.

Raw has to deliver Monday night, and next Thursday, Impact has to hit a Grand Slam since Lockdown is one of their big shows. I still have a bad feeling we will have Brooke turn into Stephanie McMahon Helmsley though…LOL

      • adztheman says:

Now that’s pretty much finished Impact over the last two weeks, I find it astonshing that they plugged Bully into this particular match, especially after the performace RVD and Storm put on..that was one of the better matches on Impact in a long time..and it went entirely to waste..it meant nothing..

If you’re going to do something like this, have Bully compete that week and turn in a performace that can’t be ignored..silly really..

I liked the British contenders in the six man tag..all three could add to the roster right now…

Raw is getting boring again…and when Smackdown starts delivering better shows, you know you have issues…

      • I enjoyed all four matches that they had in the tournament. But what truly makes it suck, brother is Hogan is the decisive choice…LOL So don’t call it a tournament….call it what it is, an exhibition.

The buildup to Lockdown has been poor, so far the buildup to Wrestlemania has been poor. This is supposed to be the best part of the Wrestling season, and all I have to look forward to right now is seeing the Indians, because it’s baseball.
