WWE Money in the Bank ’10

We are just about to start the show, I am looking forward to this, it should be a good show and I look for the Smackdown side to be the better of the 2. More athletic guys than major superstars, and that could benefit them more, getting their chance to shine. We will see. Here we go.

Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Matt Striker welcome us to the show.

Smackdown Money in the Bank match opens the show.

Kofi Kingston, Christian, Matt Hardy, Drew McIntyre, Big Show, Kane, Dolph Ziggler, and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes are involved.  I look for Drew to win tonight.

You know, you don’t name yourself “The Chosen One” and not win a championship, unless you are Lebron James…..Oooops, did I just say that?  Yes I did.

In a rather surprising move, Kane won the Money in the Bank Ladder match on Smackdown.  Incredible match to start the show, here are some notes that took place.

They used Big Show’s ladder from Smackdown most of the time, which made the bumps look more impressive.

Kofi Kingston has become the Shelton Benjamin.  A guy that has held every single title WWE has except the big ones, but he is always impressive in the Money in the Bank ladder match.

Big Show was put underneath all kinds of chairs, and that put him out for the rest of the evening.

Kofi put Drew McIntyre out of the Spanish Announce Team table.  Brings back old school memories.

Christian and Matt Hardy had a very memorable exchange when it looked like they both were going to get it, but they took each other out.

Drew McIntyre came back out, and it seemed like he was going to win, but Kane chokeslammed Drew and took the briefcase.

The match went long too, very good start.

Sheamus is backstage being interviewed by Josh Matthews.  He said he went out there Monday night because when NEXUS tried to attack him, he realized everyone was right, they must choose sides, so he chose WWE.  But he still doesn’t have respect for John.  When he beat him at Vengeance and out him through a table, he still didn’t get the respect he deserved, so tonight, he will beat that respect out of Cena.  Let’s see if he makes any jokes about mayonnaise.

WWE Divas Title match is up next, Eve taking on Alicia Fox.

Alicia retained her Diva’s Title with the Ax Kick.  Alicia proved that her Fatal 4-Way title win wasn’t a fluke.  I just wish she would wear her title to the ring, it makes the title look better.

Are you kidding me?  They are now showing what happened on Smackdown with Jack Swagger, Kane, and Jack’s father.

Jack is backstage talking to his mother on the cell phone.  Jack has to focus on the title match, he is now telling his Mother to shut up.  Wow.  Now he is blaming this on his Dad, saying when he won the accolades, Dad lived vicarious through him.  He said Dad wanted the spotlight, so he got what he deserved.  He can bask in his glory because he is going to snap Rey Mysterio’s ankle tonight and win back the World Heavyweight Championship.

Up next is the Unified Tag Team Title match with The Uso’s and The Hart Dynasty.

The Hart Dynasty retained the titles with David Hart Smith using the Sharpshooter.  Tyson went flying to distract the other Uso, and Natalya took care of Tamina.  Good match, but I fear the Uso’s now will be shoved on the back burner and will be just another team.  I hope I am wrong though.

The World Heavyweight Title match is up next, Jack Swagger taking on Rey Mysterio.  Will Kane cash in at the end?

Rey Rey retains the title by rolling Swagger up after Jack thought he had Rey beat with the Ankle Lock, shades of Eddie Guerrero.  Good match, but the Kurt Angle moveset is very obvious, I am fully expecting Swagger to change his music to the Olympic style, complete with the “You Suck” chants.  After the match, Jack attacks Rey and gives him the Ankle Lock.  Kane saves him and goes after Jack Swagger.  He might have thought to cash in though.  and as soon as I typed this, he does.

And we have a new World Champion.  Kane defeated Rey with the Tombstone Piledriver.  Good for him because he has earned it.  Cole said it has been a decade since Kane last won a World Championship, not really, he won the ECW World Title, it is recognized as World Championship.

Edge is looking at this backstage, he runs into Chris Jericho.  Edge says he has eyes in the back of his head.  Jericho said those are words from a desperate man.  Edge said he has won 2 of them, Chris reminds him he created the match, and he will win the WWE Title tonight for the 7th time.  Edge said he sounds like a desperate man, and Chris said he was right, he hasn’t won it 2 times like Edge did.  His worst nightmare is about to come.  Good segment hitting home how important it is to win the Money in the Bank ladder match.

Women’s Title is up next, Kelly Kelly taking on Layla.

Layla retained the Women’s title by beating Kelly Kelly after numerous times of interference by Michelle, yet somehow the referee never saw this.  Long gone are the days of Trish Stratus feuding with Lita.  Oh, how I miss those days.

For those os you that have paid for this PPV, they show you again what you just saw.  In this case, the earlier Money in the Bank ladder match, the one where Kane won.

Raw Money in the Bank ladder match is up next, I will do the same thing I did the first match, give you the highlights of the match.  Should be good.  Edge, Randy Orton, Evan Bourne, Mark Henry, The Miz, Chris Jericho, Ted Dibiase, and John Morrison are serving to steal the show.

The Miz won Money in the Bank cementing his status as a breakout superstar in WWE.  Another incredible match that had alot of bumps.  The wrestlers worked very hard tonight in both of the matches.  Here are some notes.

Evan Bourne climbed the ladder way too fast.

When everyone was down, Maryse took off her shoes and climbed up the ladder herself, but was caught by John Morrison.

John was caught in the ladder by an Edge sandwich.

Everyone got to do their finisher outside of the ring, but sadly, the American broadcast table was no broken.

Randy Orton did the DDT off the ladder on Evan Bourne, which is very fun to see.

Orton was on his way to win, but Miz stopped him and had trouble with the case, but he finally grabbed it and won.

Miz grabbed the mic and said to all the doubters out there, he has finally arrived, he is Mr. Money in the Bank because he is The Miz….and he’s awesome.  Miz has the crowd at the palm of his hand, and if they allow him to be, he will be the next breakthrough superstar.  Very good to see.

WWE Title match in a steel cage is up next, any bets that NEXUS will make an appearance?

Well, Sheamus retained the title by climbing over the cage first.  NEXUS did come out with bolt cutters, but officials came out and took them away.  They ordered one of the referees give them the keys to the cage, and the ref pulled them out and threw them to the crowd.  John tried to climb out, but Justin Gabriel went up there to stop him, but John swatted him like a fly.  So Darren Young and Anthony Tarver try to go after him again, and Heath Slater went to the other side, Sheamus shoved him off, climbed out, and left through the crowd.  Yes, Sheamus won, but he didn’t pin John.  What gets me though is John doesn’t get pinned.  When Sheamus threw John into a table back in December, they acted like it was a fluke.  So certainly, his title reign wasn’t very successful, but if Sheamus had pinned John, that would have cemented his status and it might have put an end to the feud, but I have a feeling it will continue.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

The two Money in the Bank ladder matches made this PPV, all 16 men did an incredible job with it, and I think Money in the Bank PPV will stick around.  Both men that won were deserving too.  I was surprised how short Rey Mysterio’s title reign lasted this time, but Kane has paid his dues.  He survived the “Katie Vick” storyline and lived to tell about it.  Major props for him.  But the other matches were, eh.  NEXUS did not make much of an impact, so I am trying to be patient with this.  We’ll see where it goes.  Swagger-Rey match was good, but something about it that just didn’t work.  Not so sure what it was yet.  Uso’s-Hart Dynasty was fine, but I just have a feeling the Uso’s will be in the backburner now, they already have generic music.  The Diva matches weren’t that good, and it shows us the state of Women’s Wrestling right now.  How can you not have Gail Kim on any of those 2 matches?  They spent the money and the time to give her vignettes, yet they have done absolutely nothing with her.  The state of women’s Wrestling.  When Melina and Beth Phoenix come back, things will hopefully pick up.  What were your thoughts on the PPV?  Let me know by email with DJKevinGillman75@aol.com or drop me a line here.  I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow night.
