WWE Smackdown 8/12/10…Kane Brings Rey A Gift.

I want to wish my condolences on the Lance Cade family for losing such a young man, he was a father of 2 and they will be dearly missed.  RIP Lance Cade.

Smackdown opens up this week with Vicky Guerrero excusing herself.  She wants to introduce the brand new Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler.  Dolph comes out with the gold around his waist, finally.  He talked about finally winning the title and he has Vicky Guerrero to thank.  Vicky says since he won the title, they are going to go on vacation, just then Kofi Kingston comes running in and start to beat down Dolph.  Security and other officials came out to stop him and Teddy Long, minus his music came out and announced that at Summerslam, Kofi invoked his rematch clause and the two will battle for the Intercontinental Title.  And tonight, Dolph will be in action, he will face Rey Mysterio, one on one.  Vicky said okay if that’s the case, then Kofi has to face Kane.  Teddy said she is the consultant, but she does not make the matches, but Kofi is cool with facing Kane, in fact he wants to do it now.  So that match is next.

Kane defeated Kofi with the Tombstone Piledriver.  Kofi looked good here, he was able to fly around and almost had Kane beat, but at the end of the match, Kane gave him what he had to.  By the way, Jamie Keyes is doing the ring announcing tonight, no Tony Chimmel, for what it’s worth.

Kane gets on the mic and again reminds us that Rey Mysterio was the one who attacked Taker.  This Sunday, he will pay for those sins.  He will take Rey to the “darkside”

Rey Mysterio comes out, again, no music, and counters what Kane has to say, saying that it has been Kane all along who attacked Undertaker.  He also said that he is God’s servants, so it’s the “Darkside” against “God’s humble servant”.

Drew McIntyre and “Dashing” Cody Rhodes are in the back, Drew wants to make sure Cody has what it takes to defeat Christian, he says he does and Drew reminds him if he doesn’t, then he’s not “Dashing” after all.  That match is up next.

“Dashing ” Cody Rhodes has some awesome music.

Rhodes wins with Crossroads, he hit Christian’s hurt shoulder first and pulled it off.  The funny part of this match was Cody not wanting his face hit and it reminded me of Summerslam 1992 when Rick “The Model” Martel and Shawn Michaels facing each other, and if any of them hit each other in the face, they were disqualified.  Once again, a Christian match was very fun to watch, he is a very underrated performer.

Tonight, Drew McIntyre will take on Matt Hardy, and the main event Rey Mysterio taking on Dolph Ziggler.

We now have a 3 on 1 handicap match with The Big Show taking on Derek Werley, Jody Reese, and Fernando Vega.

Of course, Big Show wins with a knockout punch.  He had his hand taped up and SES came out to scout the match, with Punk sporting a “I broke Big Show’s hand”, very funny.  Luke Gallows asks if that is supposed to impress them, and Punk is upset that he is speaking without asking first.  He said he knows Show’s hand hurts, and while he was impressive against the 3 opponents, they aren’t SES.  Punk said that they will play an Opus for Show when we hear nothing but Show’s hand break, bones snapping.  He is calling the symphony “The Destruction Of The Big Show”.

Matt Hardy is walking to the ring and we see Kelly Kelly make an appearance, continuing her appearance streak on the show and she says good luck Matt.  More on that in a bit.  Matt’s match with Drew is up next.

Drew wins with the Future Shock DDT, the story of the match though was Drew destroying Matt’s ankle.  They show it after the match all bloody.  Another good match.

Raw Rebound with Team WWE reforming and going after NEXUS last Monday evening.

Jack Swagger comes out, he discusses being thrown in the Gulf of Mexico.  He has an excuse for this, a legitimate excuse.  He witnessed his Father being put in a hospital, he was dealing with his father’s Chronic Diaherra until 4:00 in the morning last night.  He is the former World Champion, and he’s not even in the World Title match at Summerslam.  Yes, Summerslam has lost its “Swagger”.

MVP comes out, he understands that nobody cares about his problems.  Swagger said they should care, but wait, didn’t they have this discussion last year?  Yes, in the very same arena, and then a few weeks later at Summerslam, MVP beat Jack Swagger, remember that?  But look at what Jack has accomplished since then, Jack was World Champion, and MVP has done nothing.  Just saying, but Swagger responds by nailing MVP with the mic and the match is on….next.

MVP pinned Swagger when Swagger tried to go after MVP’s ankle, and MVP rolled him over and pinned him.  Wow, how Jack Swagger has gone down, I have no idea either.  The guy was on top of the world, but then he fell down face first and hasn’t even had a chance to get back up.  MVP hasn’t won a solid match in months, which makes Jack’s loss seem even worst.  Maybe they will have a rematch at Summerslam?

Another “Dashing” Cody Rhodes groom tips on how to take care of ear wax.  Very nasty, but good advice from a “Dashing” Cody Rhodes.

Alberto Del Rio will debut next week on Smackdown.  Very good to hear, I look forward to seeing that.

Summerslam rundown of the matches.

Main event time, Rey Mysterio will be taking on Dolph Ziggler, and that match is up next.

During the match, Kane comes out with the casket and he just watched on.  Rey rolled Dolph over after Dolph blocked the 619, Kane tried to get in the ring, but Rey prevented him from doing so and Rey kicked Kane into the casket himself to end the show.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

More wrestling and less talking tonight, which worked because it still put over the Summerslam PPV.  Now, one of the scenes that was dropped completely was Lay-Cool was supposed to face Kelly Kelly and Tiffany at the PPV, but news broke out this week that Tiffany has been suspended by WWE, so the match more than likely was scrapped at Summerslam, and I hope they add Jack Swagger in there, he needs to make an appearance there.

Now on to the show itself, a very solid show that started off with Kofi and the world champion.  I truly want to see Kofi go after the World Title, because he literally has done everything except win that title.  He certainly has earned that opportunity and if you go by logic, it fits.

“Dashing” Cody Rhodes is going to be the IC Champion soon, I firmly believe that, and he needs gold.  It’s possible, for now at least that they are going to form Drew and Cody as a tag team, win the unified tag titles.  I mean, why not?  His match with Christian was very fun to watch and the best match of the night.

Show Vs SES is interesting and I see that Punk’s cast is off, which is good to see.  Hopefully they have the opportunity to make their match unique at the PPV.

Add Swagger Vs MVP at Summerslam, why not?  They certainly need to have Swagger featured on the show.

Matt Hardy’s role is to put other people over, and he did that by losing to Drew McIntyre.  Matt will never get that push he deserves, based on fan reaction.

Main event match was fun, very good to see Dolph in the main event slot, and he didn’t get hurt losing to Rey.  The ending was fine too, though it’s obvious Undertaker will make an appearance at Summerslam and we will find out Kane took Taker out.  I so desperately want to see someone else take him out though.  Let’s have Drew be the guy, that would make sense too.

If you have any thoughts about the show, drop me an email at DJKevingillman75@aol.com or give me your comments here.  I’m ready for Summerslam.
