WWE Bragging Rights 2010…Smackdown Vs Raw

Wow, who would have thought Brock Lesnar would lose last night at UFC 121?  And yet, I didn’t order it because that would have meant 4 PPV shows in a month, and that is just too many PPV shows to order.  I blame Vince McMahon for putting 2 shows in one month.  And on top of that, my Cleveland Browns took it to the defending Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints today.  I never would have guessed that, so going in, I am looking forward to Bragging Rights.  Let’s hope WWE delivers, here we go.

I am guessing they end the show tonight with the Buried Alive match, but we will see.  It will also be interesting to see where they put the 7 on 7 Elimination match, and yes that was made official at Smackdown this past Friday.

Excuse me, Vicky Guerrero is out to introduce her man, the Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler.  His match with Daniel Bryan kicks off the show.

Daniel Bryan won in an amazing match against Dolph Ziggler.  No shame in losing this one.  The story of the match was Dolph losing his cool when Daniel wouldn’t cave in.  The match seemed to be over, but Daniel had his foot in the ropes and when Dolph was getting into Daniel, telling him he doesn’t belong in the ring with Dolph, Daniel rolled him over for the LeBell Lock and tapped out.  Just an incredible match and a great way to start the PPV.

The Miz and Alex Riley are in the back, gloating over the fact that Raw started the night with a victory.  But then, we have CM Punk, Sheamus, and The Miz discussing who should be team captain, and Santino tried to talk reason, and to grab some snacks and beverages.  But The Miz said that things are right where they should be, in total chaos, because when that happens, Raw prevails.

The WWE Tag Team champions, “Dashing” Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre come out.  They should have been in the Bragging Rights match.

Rhodes said who has more to brag about than the WWE Tag Team champions.  They talk about dominating the tag team division since winning the titles.  In fact, they have beaten both Smackdown and Raw guys.

Email sound, good gravy.

Yes, the Raw GM appears again, where is Teddy Long at when we need him to unplug the thing?  He is making Rhodes and McIntyre defend their tag team titles, and their opponents are….

Wade Barrett comes out, and he says this will be a great night for NEXUS.  He introduces David Otunga, and his tag team partner is John Cena.

David Otunga is a tag team champion, yes he and Cena win when Rhodes had the Crossroads, but Cena reverses it and gives him the STF.  Not sure how I like this.  What was the point of Rhodes and McIntyre elevating the tag team division when they lose after a month’s reign?

Oh yeah, Otunga celebrates, like any good champion does, and Cena gives him the Attitude Adjustment.

So we go from a great match to this?

After a Knucklehead promo, we see what took place the last few weeks with Goldust and Ted Dibiase.  Josh Matthews asks him the typical dumb question and after Maryse called him an idiot in French….I think.  Ted said that Goldust doesn’t belong in the same ring, let alone the same tax bracket as he does.  But he gives Goldust credit, he was creative in how he stole the Million Dollar Title, and after he beats him in the ring tonight, he will deport his “fake” girlfriend, NXT Diva Aksana.

Goldust taking on Ted Dibiase is up now.

Dibiase wins with a draping DDT.  Wow, he needed this win badly.  WWE has dropped the ball with him because a year ago, he was on the verge of superstardom, even drifting away from Legacy as a face, but now?  Not even Maryse can help him much, and that should be illegal.  Anyway, Aksana and Maryse started to fight, and when Dibiase won, Maryse took the Million Dollar title, Aksana came back and fought with Maryse, took the title back.  Then she tried to seduce Ted, but before he could kiss her, she backed away and Goldust gave him a Final Cut.  He took the title, and kept his woman.

Lay-Cool come out and give the Minnesota peeps insults, but then said that Layla will beat Natalya faster than Lay-Cool deletes the text messages from Brett Favre.  Now that is funny.

Layla taking on Natalya for the WWE Divas Title next.

Layla wins the match when the ref’s back was turned, Michelle McCool kicked at Natalya’s head and Layla pinned her.  The match was good actually, but Jerry “The King” Lawler said “I don’t know how you guys can stand them winning matches like that”.  Jerry “The King” Lawler, a man who has been a heel many, many times and won matches in any way he can for so many years, it’s just wrong.

Josh Matthews is in the grave.  Seriously, now we need Todd Grisham to kick dirt in him.  He’s showcasing what a Buried Alive match truly means.

Wow, Kane Vs Undertaker, World Heavyweight Title match, Buried Alive match is next.

Kane buried his brother alive with some help from NEXUS.  The Minnesota crowd was chanting “We want blood”, but sadly, they did not get it.  In fact, I think this is the first Buried Alive match that there wasn’t any blood.  My guess is, and again, this is just my guess, but I think we indeed will have John Cena and Undertaker at Wrestlemania.  The reason being is because John didn’t help Taker out, and for that reason, he will hold him responsible.  Just a thought.  Kane had a tractor full of dirt thrown on Taker, so I guess he didn’t want to do any shoveling.  Match was okay, I guess, but I am glad they didn’t do this match last.

Josh Matthews is asking Randy Orton if he is concerned that John Cena could cost him the WWE Title tonight.  Randy said if he does cost him the match, he will make it real easy for John, by dropping him in the middle of the match.

7 on 7 Bragging Rights Elimination match.  Team Raw (The Miz, Sheamus, CM Punk, R-Truth, Ezekiel Jackson, John Morrison, Santino ) will take on Team Smackdown (Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Edge, Kofi Kingston, Jack Swagger, and Tyler Reks) is up now.

Santino is eliminated first by being pinned by Tyler Reks with a Backbreaker into a DDT.  I guess that will be his finisher.  It’s 7-6, Smackdown.

Wow, Kofi Kingston is eliminated by Sheamus with the Celtic Cross.  Very shocking, am I the only one who truly believes in his ability?  6-6.

Alberto Del Rio took Rey Mysterio out, at least temporarily when he rammed his shoulder on the barricade, I am sure Rey will be back, so for now, it’s 6-5 Raw.

John Morrison eliminates Jack Swagger with Starship Pain, so it’s 6-5, officially for Raw, but only 4 men representing Smackdown for now.

Tyler Reks is eliminated with a vicious Brogue Kick by Sheamus.  6-4 Raw.

Both Sheamus and Big Show have been eliminated with a double countout.  What a job by the team captain.  It’s 5-3, but only Edge and Del Rio representing Smackdown.

R-Truth is eliminated by Edge with a spear.  4-3, Raw.

Another spear by Edge, eliminating John Morrison.  3-3.

Alberto Del Rio is eliminated by CM Punk with a rollup, so even though Rey Rey is still officially in, Edge is by himself against 3 Raw stars, for now.

Here comes Rey, attacking Alberto from behind.  What’s the point?

Punk is eliminated when Rey gives him a 619 and dropped a dime.  2-2.

Big Zeke is eliminated when Rey did another 619 and dropped the dime, but Rey slipped on the ropes, and there was an awkward moment there, but it’s now Edge and Rey Vs The Miz.

Edge spears The Miz after a hot tag and the winners are Rey and Edge.  Team Smackdown wins again.

Edge and Rey did a nice Steiner Brothers tribute, celebrating the victory with Rey going in between Edge’s legs and bark like a dog.  Very nice.  Good match.

Striker is hilarious in gloating the victory.

WWE Title match ends the show, and the question is what will John Cena do?  That match is now.

Before the match starts, Wade Barrett grabs the mic and tells Cena if he doesn’t win the match tonight, John will be fired.  Could this truly be a heel turn?

Well, Wade did win the match, but he won by DQ when Cena gave him an Attitude Adjustment, so while Wade won, Randy still retains his title.  This ending confused myself, and I am sure everyone else in Minnesota.  We had a ref bump, and when that happened the rest of NEXUS came in and beat down Orton.  Cena then took out NEXUS and when Wade questioned that, Cena said he didn’t want him to get DQ’d.  So Wade agrees with that, and when the ref came through, Cena came back into the ring, attacked Barrett and gave him an Attitude Adjustment.

After the match, Cena handed Orton back his WWE Title and Randy thanked him with a RKO.  So technically, Barrett won, so Cena isn’t fired and Cole can rest easy tonight.  The show ends with another RKO for Barrett by Orton.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

So, instead of a clean win, we get a cheap DQ at the end of the night.  The match of the night clearly was Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler.  Once again, we have Raw win 1 Raw Vs Smackdown match, yet Raw still treats Smackdown like a step child.  Overall, the PPV was okay, but the ending took away what could have been a good PPV.  I truly was hoping we’d see Cena turn heel and be behind NEXUS all along.  Remember, right when NEXUS was first formed, Barrett said there is a big plan, and there is a big reason, a reason that is bigger than anyone, that reason could have been total control by Cena and NEXUS.  Instead we get Cena being “forced” into joining this group and already there is alot of conflict going on.  I guess we will also get to see Barrett Vs Randy Orton in a No DQ match at Survivor Series, with Orton walking in as champion.  The question then becomes how long does Barrett and Cena last with NEXUS?  I truly hope Raw cleans this stuff up and we can sort out everything tomorrow night.  What did you think of the show?  Give me your thoughts by emailing me at DJKevinGillman75@aol.com or drop me a line on the site.
