WWE Monday Night Raw 5/23/11…Did You Say I Quit?

Before Raw starts, I just want to reiterate on the unfortunate death of Randy “Macho Man” Savage this weekend.  I hope WWE gives us a nice video tribute of what the man represented in the WWE.  The bottom line is every wrestling fan who has grown up with WWE were Macho Man fans.  Without Savage, Hogan would not have been able to do some of the things he did in the late 80’s for Vince, and for the industry.  It’s time Vince gives him that respect, we’ll see.

12 years ago, Owen Hart passed away in a tragic ring accident, never ever forget the type of wrestler and more important, the type of man Owen Hart was.  I miss both men.

So having said that, let’s see if WWE redeems themselves after a lackluster PPV, I want to see some direction with this show.

They do show us “In remembrance of Randy “Macho Man” Savage, but I still want to see more, show us a tribute video, please Vince…do the right thing.

We are live tonight in Portland, Oregon, Josh Matthews welcomes us to the show.  Who is with him?

Jerry “The King” Lawler makes his way to the ringside, he has an extra skip in his step it seems after the victorious match he had with Michael Cole last night.

King said finally our long national nightmare is over, Michael Cole has been beaten.  He knew Cole would try to get out of the match, so he had an ace up his sleeve….actually, a Hart up his sleeve.

Here comes Bret “The Hitman” Hart.

Hart said it’s great to be back in Portland and on Raw.  Even though he and King have had their differences in the past, he always had respect for the man, but he has 0 respect for Michael Cole.  As far as he is concerned….

The Truth shall set you free…

Here comes R-Truth.

Truth said it is an honor to see Bret, he must be a 90-something WWE Champion.

He tells the crowd to shut up, he asked Bret to guess how many title shots he has had, he has had 0.  It’s probably because he cared about “The Little Jimmy’s”, maybe because he didn’t give them anything.  He asked for Bret’s shades, and see if he can give “Little Jimmy” something.

He finds a “Little Jimmy” and gives him Bret’s shades.  So does that mean he should be next in line for a WWE Title shot?  Not exactly.  He snatches the shades off of “Little Jimmy”.

He used to believe wins and losses didn’t matter, as long as he gave the fans what they wanted.  But that’s not the case, he took out John Morrison, he beat Rey last night, but maybe he needs to take it out on a WWE Hall of Famer.

Bret is ready for it, he said he had his chances is because he is the best he is, the best he was, and the best there ever will be.  The reason Truth isn’t getting a title shot is because he is a freaking lunatic.

Truth doesn’t need to take this, and walks out.

Here comes John Cena, let the jokes begin.

Cena says it’s time he and Truth talk, but first, he wants to say welcome back to Bret “The Hitman” Hart in a WWE ring.

Now let’s get back to The Truth, he has been busy with The Miz lately and isn’t sure when Truth got crazy.

Truth said it all began with John Cena.  The show is all about John Cena, and he is sick of it.  He never liked Cena, and the thing is he and Hart are both a propaganda for the people to feel good about themselves.  It’s his time to get a WWE Title shot.

Cena said he is a little banged up, but he has some time to kill.

Email sound….

Josh Matthews reads the announcement, the Raw GM said Truth has been impressive, but he needs to see more.  So tonight, the main event will be Rey Mysterio and CM Punk taking on John Cena and Rey Mysterio, with Bret “The Hitman” Hart as special guest ref.

Big Show and Kane are leaning on Alberto Del Rio’s car, talking about taking out NEXUS tonight.  Ricardo Rodriguez is upset, and they shove him.  Del Rio starts cussing in Spanish, at least I think.  He has Big Show and Kane’s attention.

The first match is for the WWE Tag Team Titles….Kane and Big Show taking on Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga.

CM Punk returns to the commentary table.

McGillicutty and Otunga defeated Kane and Big Show when the ref was knocked down by Kane, Mason Ryan distracted him, and Punk kicked Show in the head so McGillicutty and Otunga can give him a double DDT.

Still to come, the main event is going to be CM Punk and R-Truth taking on John Cena and Rey Mysterio, with Bret “The Hitman” Hart as special ref.

Capitol Punishment is coming Sunday June 19th, they drew a cartoon figure of President Obama with John Cena and Rey Mysterio.

Randy Orton at K-Mart autograph signing for his DVD movie “That’s What I Am”

Hey, kid is wearing a Cleveland Indians T-shirt, good for him.  Big game for them tonight against Boston Red Sox.  They are trailing 2-1 though in 6th inning.

Moments ago, we see what we just saw….new WWE Tag Team champions.

Scott Stanford are with the former Tag Team champions, Show is pissed off they lost.  Alberto Del Rio interrupts, slaps Big Show and runs off, we don’t see a camera but we hear tires squeal, and see Big Show was run over by Ricardo Rodriguez.  Alberto and Ricardo run off while the EMTs tend to Show.

We come back and see the EMTs still trying to tend to Show.  He can’t stand up and walk effectively, Show is pissed and cusses on a TV PG show.

“The All-American American” Jack Swagger comes out for a match.  He will take on Evan Bourne.

Swagger wins with a Gut Wrench Powerbomb, in a modified squash match here.  He starts dancing around, and Evan kicks him in the head and runs.

Michael Cole is backstage, so he is here.  He tries to shake Eve’s hand and say he is sorry, but she gives him her boot to kiss.

Cole is up next.

The Rock’s new movie “Fast Five” has made $506 Million worldwide, that is awesome news to hear.

Here comes Michael Cole, slowly making his move to the broadcast booth.  The crowd chants “You Suck Toe” very funny.

Cole said this isn’t about him anymore, and it never should have been about him.  He is out here to apologize to everyone, the crowd isn’t buying it.

He just wants to come back home, and do commentary every Monday Night Raw.  No more ColeMines, no more matches, he just wants everyone to accept his apology.  He really, really, really means it.

King gets up, he said it sounds good to him.  He wants to thank Cole for coming out and being professional, he also wants to thank Cole for giving him a Christmas Card picture for this year.

Cole kissing King’s foot, with BBQ sauce all over him.

He also hands him breath mints.  He comes back to the table.

Awesome….Here comes The Miz.

Miz has the mic, forget Wrestling, let’s all talk tonight.

There is only one reason The Miz didn’t win the WWE Title, and that’s Alex Riley.

But this isn’t the first time, at Extreme Rules, he forgot who he worked for, because he didn’t show up for his big Triple Threat match for the WWE Title, and he lost.  Than the next night, he beat Cena, but this happened.

They show us Riley dropping the WWE Title, after he slid the title in the ring for The Miz to use, but Mike Chiota saw it, and reversed the decision.

Then last night, he dropped the cell phone after the ref heard Cena say “I Quit” so now he wants one more title shot from The Raw GM, with Alex Riley banned from ringside.

No answer.

The Miz demands an answer, and he won’t leave the ring until he gets it.

Email Sound….

The answer is no, he lost last night, so as far as the Raw Gm is concerned, he is done with John Cena.

The Miz looks at A-Ri and says it’s all his fault.  Come on Alex, fight back.

He said he didn’t say “I Quit”, very true.

The Divas seem united in this battle with Kharma.

Kharma just got on her knees and began to cry.  It seems like she wants the Divas to like her, not sure where this is heading, but we go to a commercial break.

Okay.

Miz slaps Riley and said he gave him a WWE personal Service contract, and he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.  He is sick of his stupidity.  He is sick of his face, he is done with him….He’s fired.

Miz slaps Riley, but finally….Riley fights back.  The crowd is loving this.

Riley has snapped here, saying he has done everything for him.

He storms out of the ring, and the fans loved it.

It’s time for some Diva action, an 8 Diva Tag Team match between The Bella Twins, Maryse, and Melina taking on Kelly Kelly, Eve, Gail Kim, and Beth Phoenix.

Oh boy, here comes Kharma.

Moments ago, we see the same thing we just saw, and the crowd hated it.  Why would you make a wrestler who is built up as a “monster” cry?

The next match is Kofi Kingston taking on Drew McIntyre.

Kofi wins the match with S.O.S. in a good match here.  Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero are looking on.

Fake press Conference again, involving President Obama talking about Capitol Punishment on June 19th.

McGillicutty and Otunga are proud of their win and CM Punk said to them see what happens when you listen to me?  See what I will do in the main event.

That match is up next.

Big storm is hitting here, so don’t be surprised if I lose some power by the time this show is done.

Be A Star Anti-Bullying Campaign.

Earlier tonight, Big Show is run over by a car.

Alberto Del Rio is with Scott Stanford, he says this wasn’t supposed to happen, Show brought this by himself, it’s not my fault….channel Gene Snitsky here.

It’s Ricardo’s fault, not his fault.

King makes the sad announcement that they lost Macho Man, one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time.

Video tribute here, I am glad they are doing it.

Indians just took the lead in the bottom of the 8th, they lead The Red Sox 3-2, thanks to Asdrubal Cabrera.  The man is an All-Star in the making.

Main event is on now, R-Truth and CM Punk taking on John Cena and Rey Mysterio.

Indians won the game 3-2.  Go Tribe, back to Wrestling.

Cena and Rey win the match with a 619, a Sharpshooter, and a Drop The Dime on CM Punk.  Yes, Bret was involved with Punk, giving him a Sharpshooter because earlier in the match, Punk shoves Bret.

The show ends with Rey and Cena raising the legend’s hand.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

This was a strange episode tonight, some good, some bizarre, some, I don’t know.  I will say this has been the best episode in a while, and part of that attributes to WWE going in different directions with feuds.

I am going out on a limb here and say R-Truth will be the Number One Contender.  Why?  Because we saw a segment with Cena and Truth, despite Truth not winning his tag match.  We’ll see though.

Always good to see The Hitman back in a WWE ring, I think WWE should use him more, he can contribute in so many ways.

Del Rio Vs Big Show is surely a good thing, Show is a good opponent to work with, but did Kane and Show have to lose the tag straps to McGillicutty and Otunga?  That’s like losing the tag straps to The Spirit Squad….oh wait, they did that too.

One thing is for sure, I don’t want Show mad at me.  Big mistake there.

Do you believe Cole was sincere with his apology?  No, me neither.

I do like that finally Alex Riley stood up for himself from The Miz’s bullying.  (Hey, don’t they have an Anti-Bullying campaign going on?) I am a bit surprised that Riley was over as a babyface, let’s see where they go with him.

Did Jack Swagger really get schooled by Evan Bourne?  Really?  Really?

Did WWE just kill Kharma?  The Portland crowd thought so.

I did love that Macho Man tribute video, nicely done by WWE.

Overall, there is some new direction here, let’s see where they take it.  WWE has to be creative here.  What were your thoughts on the show?  Email me at DJKevinGillman75@aol.com or drop me a line on the site.

One Response to WWE Monday Night Raw 5/23/11…Did You Say I Quit?

  1. Alan Zarek says:

Think about this for a second..the last time Gail Kim had a match on TV, Osama Bin Laden was alive, Arnold and Maria were together, and gas was 3-50 a gallon..

Check out WWE.com..they’ve had tons of Savage stuff, including stuff I had never seen before..I think there is a groundswell on the IWC to have Randy and Elizabeth be indcuted together in the HOF, as early as next year..but we’ll see..maybe Stephanie will have to sign off along with Vince…who knows?

Just looking at the results of the PPV..no belts change..nothing really was advanced forward..I still have concern for Smackdown and Orton’s run..who is going to challenge him? Sin Cara? Alex Riley?
