WWE Summerslam 8/14/11

This is the 24th annual Summerslam, live from The Staples Arena in Los Angeles, California.  5 matches are lined up, however I am expecting more.  But the match everyone came to see is CM Punk Vs John Cena Part II, with HHH as the Special Guest Referee.  What will happen?  We’ll find out, so kick back, relax, and keep checking here throughout the night.

Here we go.

Adam Jones from the rock group Tool is performing our national anthem in his awesome guitar riff.

Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Booker T welcome us to the show.

The Miz starts the show off, so he has a match.  A 6 man match in fact.

Ladies and gentlemen, the most see WWE Champion in WWE history is back at Summerslam.  He is here to steal the show, like only he can.

The Truth shall set you free.

Here comes R-Truth.

He doesn’t understand why The Miz would want to thank the fans for demanding he wrestle, they had nothing to do with it.  You know why he doesn’t like spiders?  It has a “S” just like Summerslam, and Cee Lo Green is performing tonight too, and speaking of “C’s”….

what?

Conspiracy also starts with the letter “C”.

Alberto Del Rio has a nice ride tonight, a Ferrari, he is styling and profiling.

So, for those you keeping score at home, and you know who you are….it’s The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and R-Truth taking on Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, and Rey Mysterio.

The match is on now.

Rey Mysterio, John Morrison, and Kofi Kingston won the match with a 619 and Drop The Dime on R-Truth.  Kofi and John gave the other two men double topes.  The right man won since he gets a title shot tomorrow night on Raw. in his hometown of San Diego, California.

CM Punk is with John Laurentius, he wants Punk to issue a public apology for his kick last week on Raw.  Punk sarcastically apologized.

Stephanie McMahon is making her return, she wished Punk good luck, but Punk isn’t sure if this is legit, and she assures him that she talked to her husband, HHH and Vince McMahon earlier this week, and they wish both Punk and Cena good luck on the match tonight.  She sticks her hand out, and Punk said he would shake her hand, but he knows where it’s been.

Sheamus Vs Mark Henry is up next.

Mark Henry wins the match by count out.  Brutal match here between the two, but Sheamus went through the barricade, on Mark Henry’s slam, and Sheamus crawled on his hands and knees, however he just missed the answer to 10, and lost the match.

WWE is doing a great thing with this Mark Henry push right now.

Josh Matthews is with Christian, he wants to know why Christian is so confident over Randy Orton not winning the World Heavyweight Title, and Christian said that he has invested in some insurance policy, and WWE is the beneficiary.  This is Summerslam, this is Los Angeles, so let’s put it like this, he is Harry Potter, a big blockbuster, while Orton is like Cowboys and Aliens.  An overrated, overhyped flop.

Cee Lo Green is here to perform his hit “Bright Lights, Big City” the theme song to Summerslam.

Well, Cee Lo just sung the hit song “F*** You” on a PG show, or supposed to be.  And the heel divas were dancing to it, okay, moving on.

WWE Divas Championship match is up now….Beth Phoenix Vs Kelly Kelly.

Kelly Kelly won the match with a roll up after Beth Phoenix tried the Glam Slam.  They actually told a good story of “Strong” Woman Vs “Princess” Woman, Kelly was able to show off her athleticism, and Beth showed off her strength.

Stephanie McMahon walked out of John Cena’s locker room, and she didn’t look happy.

R-Truth couldn’t figure out why he lost tonight, he is talking to Jimmy Hart.  Jimmy is saying he can take Truth to the top, he needs someone to watch his back and he can focus on the ring, and not the conspiracies.  Think big.

Yeah, Truth needs to think big, not little….Jimmy…..wait a second is he “Little Jimmy”?

Jimmy flies out of the room fast, and he says he needs to think big, what are you looking at?

Current Los Angeles Lakers player, Ron Artest is looking at R-Truth and Little Jimmy.  Ron is with his daughter.

Wade Barrett Vs Daniel Bryan is coming up now.

Wade Barrett won the match with a Wasteland on Daniel Bryan.  Incredible technical wrestling here between the two.  I am a bit surprised that Wade won, but I would have no problem with another match between these two.

Randy Orton Vs Christian, World Heavyweight Title match is up now.

Look for both of the main matches to go long here.

Christian has the mic, and he says he is a man of integrity, so he wants to bring in the man who is in his corner tonight, his best friend, The Rated R Superstar….Edge.

Here comes Edge.

Edge has the mic.

Edge said that the doctors told him he would never be cleared again to wrestle.  He booed, but he was happy so he can open the door for Christian.  He became the World Heavyweight Champion, he didn’t think it was fair for Christian to put the title on the line 5 days after he won the title.  But he complained week after week, then he received rematch after rematch, but he did it…. a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion.  But he won it by DQ.

He did some bad things in the past, but he did it with style.  Edge didn’t hide things, but somewhere, Christian embarrassed himself.  He is better than that, so he needs to say this to his best friend.  He didn’t know Christian would become a whiny, crying little bitch.

And Edge walks off from Christian.

Here comes Orton, and the match is on now.

Randy Orton becomes a 9-time champion when he defeated Christian to become new World Heavyweight champion with a RKO on the steel steps.  Incredible match here by the two, and easily the best match of the night so far.  A little bit everything, including the kitchen sink.  Orton took it to another level when Christian spit on Orton for the 2nd time.  I don’t think these two will wrestle anytime soon, but if they don’t thank you for having a great feud with many great matches.

HHH is with his wife, Stephanie McMahon, and she gives him a kiss.

WWE Title video hyping up the match.

WWE Title match, CM Punk Vs John Cena, with HHH as the special guest ref is up next, are you ready?  Let’s do it.

CM Punk defeated John Cena….sort of.  See the truth is, John Cena had his foot on the ropes, Punk gave him the GTS, and HHH didn’t see John’s foot on the ropes, so he counted to 3 and awarded the match to Punk.

It truly wasn’t the best ending to what was then a great match.  HHH tried to shake the hand of Punk, but Punk wouldn’t accept it, and he went out of the ring.  When Punk was celebrating, we see Kevin Nash coming into the ring, and he kicked Punk and beat him down.

Enter Alberto Del Rio….

Del Rio cashed in his briefcase, and gave Punk a kick in the head to pin him 1…2…3, to become the new WWE Champion.

The show ends with Del Rio celebrating the big win.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

I had a family emergency as soon as this show ended, so I wasn’t able to complete this until now, but everything is fine.  Okay, on to the show.

I certainly have mixed thoughts.  On one thought, it was an incredible match between Cena and Punk.  But on the other hand, I think WWE blew it big time by not turning Cena heel here, and truly make a mark at this PPV, the so-called “2nd biggest PPV of the year”.

So where do we go from here?

We know Del Rio Vs Rey is for sure tomorrow night, I believe Kevin Nash will come in and put Punk over big time.  He surely said it on Twitter a few weeks ago, so there you go.

But what about Cena?

He is the same old constant, same entrance music, same moves, same cheesy promos.

I have to accept John Cena will never turn heel again.

But is Alberto Del Rio a short-term champion, or do they have a long-term plan for him?  I just have the feeling he should have not been involved at all tonight, except the ending.  The great thing about Edge winning his first title was he didn’t wrestle at all on the PPV, he was fresh as a daisy, so when he came out, it was a complete surprise.  I am sure though that Del Rio’s speech tomorrow night on Raw will be entertaining, so he has that.

As for the rest of the matches, Orton Vs Christian was superb, and I still have the feeling that this was the end of the feud, but then again, I was the person thinking Cena was going to turn heel, so we’ll see about that.

I truly enjoyed Barrett Vs Bryan tonight, and I would have no problem seeing them wrestle again.

Henry Vs Sheamus was alot of fun to watch, they will probably have another one.

The rest of the show served its purpose, but here is the thing.  The company was riding on the main event, and for it to deliver.  I didn’t like the ending, and I was expecting a bit more, but let’s see where Raw heads tomorrow.  What were your thoughts on the show?  Give me an email at DJKevinGillman75@aol.com or give me your thoughts on the site.

One Response to WWE Summerslam 8/14/11

  1. Alan Zarek says:

The WWE has a Mexican Tour set for later this fall, and they wanted Del Rio to have the belt in that time frame…why Nash was involved for me is the great swerve in this instance, since he’s doing indy work this summer…Cena’s heel turn is coming..this is going to be a long slow story arc leading to Wrestlemaina…check out the Rock on Facebook with his response to Cena’s promo in Australia…Cena still sells tons of merch, so a heel turn..as the “corporate champion”..is going to have to be handled with care..

I was surprised they let Kelly keep the butterfly belt..a good feud between these two would help with the credability of the division…
