WWE Royal Rumble 1/29/12

The very first WWE PPV of the year, the most anticipated season in Wrestling is about to begin.  Tonight’s Royal Rumble is in St. Louis.  Who wins the Royal Rumble?  Keep checking here throughout the night, we will start soon.

I have avoided the net today because I want to be surprised, as we all are in the Rumble participants.  Expect some surprises tonight, here we go.

Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Booker T welcome us to the show.

We kick the show off with the World Heavyweight Title, inside a Steel Cage.  Triple Threat match with Daniel Bryan Vs Mark Henry Vs The Big Show, now.

Daniel Bryan retains his title by climbing out of the cage, Show had him but Daniel breaks the grip and dropped to the floor, to retain the title.

Good match to start the show off.

And I flipped the channel just now to see my Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics, 88-87.  Kyrie Irving made his mark, making the game winning shot.  A star is born.

John Cena video, in his preparation with The Rock at Wrestlemania.

Here comes the WWE Divas Champion, Beth Phoenix.  In fact, an 8 Diva Tag match is up now.  Beth Phoenix, Natalya, and the Bella Twins facing off against Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Alicia Fox, and Tamina.

Wham Bam Glam Slam, Beth pins Kelly, and is dominating as ever.  They tried, Kelly even landed a plancha on all 7 women outside of the ring, but Beth took over after that.

Video footage from last Monday night when Kane took out Zack Ryder.

Zack Ryder is being wheeled in, John Laurinaitis is buttering up, remember his job will be evaluated tomorrow night on Raw.

Eve interrupts the fun, she hopes tomorrow night on Raw, Big John is fired.

What an ass….Woo Woo Woo…You Know It.

John Cena Vs Kane is up now.

A double countout between the two men.  A fight continues backstage.  Kane lays Cena out with a chair, right in front of Zack Ryder’s dressing room, Kane kicks the door down and attacks Zack.  Kane wheels Zack back to ringside.  Kane shoves Zack back into the ring, and here comes Eve to stop this.

Kane gives Zack a Tombstone Piledriver, and Cena comes back out, but is met with a chokeslam.

EMTs, and referees are out to tend to Zack and John Cena.

63 days away from the biggest match in quite some time, now we see The Rock’s video.

Good gravy, another bonus match here.  Drew McIntyre Vs The Funky Funkasaurus.  This won’t end well.

Cameron and Naomi are representing well too.

The Funky Funkasaurus wins with his big splash.  Somebody call my Momma.

CM Punk Vs Dolph Ziggler, with John Laurinaitis as a special guest referee, for the WWE Title is up now.

His name is John Laurinaitis, Executive Vice President, of Talent Relations, and Interim General Manager of Raw.  In the interest of fairness, he has decided to oversee the match from the outside of the ring.  He asks for a real referee to come out.

So there we go, match starts now.

John Laurinaitis throws Vickie Guerrero out of the ringside area.

CM Punk defeated Dolph Ziggler with a GTS.  Ref bump, so John L was checking on the referee.  Punk had Ziggler pinned, but John was too busy checking in on the ref.  Punk nailed John L with the GTS, Dolph’s boot kicked John in the head, but Punk gave Ziggler one more GTS, and Laurinaitis jumped on the apron to make the pin cover, along with the referee.

John claps for Punk on the ramp.

63 days away from Wrestlemania.

We are set for our main event, the Royal Rumble match.  It’s all about the numbers video is playing.

Royal Rumble match is starting, Number 1 is The Miz.

We are doing this every 90 seconds this year, so expect a fast paced Rumble.

The Miz has the mic, time filler, I guess.  Every superstar is snickering at him, like it bothers him he is number 1 entrant tonight.  They don’t think he will make it till the end, but those are the same superstars who didn’t think he would be main eventing Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion.  But those people were wrong, he will be the last man standing, and he will main event Wrestlemania 28.  Because he is The Miz….and he is awesome.

Jericho eliminates Orton.

Sheamus and Jericho are final 2.

Sheamus eliminates Jericho, and wins the Royal Rumble.

Incredible finishing sequences between these two men, back and forth and what does Jericho in is a Brogue Kick, right onto the floor.

Great ending here, starting the Road to Wrestlemania, and ending the show.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

A surprising choice to win the Rumble, but it was a good choice in my opinion.  Now Sheamus can do the storyline of which title should he go for, and I think ultimately, it will be Sheamus Vs Daniel Bryan, which would be a very good match.  Jericho winning was also teased big time, and I thought deep down he might be the way to go.  Cody Rhodes and The Miz did a terrific job too, lasting for most of the Rumble.  It was also nice to see Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Road Dogg, though not quite the presence that Kevin Nash and Booker T were last year, but they still have it that presence from the crowd.  Amazing pop for both men.  Great to see Kharma back too, and I think she is in line for a match with Beth Phoenix at Wrestlemania, which would be a dream match.

Dolph Ziggler Vs CM Punk stole the show, and for me, I think Dolph has to be in line to win one of the Money in the Bank ladder matches down the road.  He has earned a title opportunity.

I also liked the World Title shot, and I am not sure where they are going with John Cena, but make no mistake about it, WWE is starting the big push for The Rock Vs Cena at Wrestlemania, the real main event, regardless.

Overall, a fun show to watch, and a surprising choice to win.  I am ready for the road to Wrestlemania to begin….now.
