Impact Wrestling 2/16/12…A New Chapter Has Begun

A new dawn has emerged, sort of.  It has been confirmed that Vince Russo is no longer working for TNA, so will the shows pick it up a notch?  We will see, the heels off of Against All Odds this past Sunday, we kick the show off with the World Heavyweight Champion, Bobby Roode.

Roode loves being the World Heavyweight Champion, and how sweet it was for him to have his hand raised by The Stinger, who served as the Special Enforcer.  Week after week, he tried to screw Bobby out of the title, but he didn’t get the job done.  And now, he only has himself to blame.  He is the “It” Factor of Professional Wrestling, and there is nothing Sting can do about it.

Here comes the Commish, you can follow him on Twitter @Sting.

Sting blames himself for allowing emotion to get the best of himself this past Sunday, so he congratulated Bobby Roode for being the World Heavyweight Champion, and he’s also glad Bobby is a fighting champion, because tonight, Bobby will defend his World Heavyweight Title against Jeff Hardy, and that match is next.

Mike Tenay and Taz welcome us to the show, and when we come back, we see New York Giants Running Back, Brandon Jacobs sitting with Mike Straka, host of the new MMA Show, called MMA Uncensored Live, coming to Spike TV.

Hardy Vs Roode, in a No-DQ match, for the World Heavyweight Title is up now.

Bobby Roode defeated Jeff Hardy with a spear, thanks to Kurt Angle coming out, and ram him into the steel steps.  Roode retains his title.

Roode brags about his victory backstage, and Sting says this isn’t over with yet.  Tonight, a Number One Contender with 2 men who want a chance for Roode’s Title.

Eric Young forgot about Valentine’s Day, so he is writing a song for ODB, and will play it tonight.

On the other side of backstage, Sting makes the main event set tonight.  It will be “Cowboy” James Storm facing Bully Ray.

When we come back, we have an update and a report on Jesse Sorensen, from his awful fall Sunday night at Against All Odds, when Zema Ion’s foot caught Jesse in the head, and knocked him cold.  He didn’t have any feeling in his arms and legs for a while.  But Jesse is progressing well, and should make a complete recovery.  My prayers are still with the 22-year old.

X-Division Tag Team match is up now, Zema Ion and Austin Aries facing Alex Shelley and Shannon Moore.

Zema Ion and Austin Aries won the match when Zema pinned Alex Shelley with a rollup.  Zema stole the pin from Austin, and I think even he is impressed.

Gail Kim and Madison Rayne are backstage, we will have a Knockout Battle Royal to determine the Number One Contender to Gail’s title.  Madison wants to get back on Gail’s good graces, and she says she has her back tonight, and will make sure the Knockouts know how fortunate they are to have this opportunity.

Earlier tonight, Bobby Roode defeated Jeff Hardy, thanks to Kurt Angle interfering.

Still to come tonight, Number One Contender match for the World Heavyweight Title, “Cowboy” James Storm Vs Bully Ray.

Knockout Battle Royal is up now.

Madison is talking, and she says that we should all be grateful that Gail Kim is kind enough to give the winner of this match a Knockout Title shot.  Ring the bell right now.

Madison Rayne eliminated Velvet Sky to win the Knockout Battle Royal.  Velvet thought she won, but Madison came into the ring, and was involved in the match too.  Gail Kim is beside herself, and now Madison Rayne is the new Number One Contender to the Knockout Title.

James Storm is ready tonight, Bully Ray is the kind of guy who will punch you in the face, and James will fight back.  He punches a hole in the wall.

Eric Bischoff and Gunner are on their way out to the ring, next.

The new World Tag team champion, Samoa Joe and Magnus are proud of their win Sunday night, over Crimson and Matt Morgan.  The rematch is next week, and the Tag team champions are ready.

Here comes Gunner and Bischoff, Ric Flair, and Chealsey, Desmond Wolfe’s former valet.

Bischoff wants some champagne, he says that Garrett will never accomplish in this business what Eric has done.  Find a new profession, and don’t you ever set foot in this business again, and good luck in your future endeavors.

Bully Ray, the best Calves in the business, everyone knows he should be the TNA World Heavyweight Champion right now, but he will do what he has to do tonight and defeat James Storm, to move on to his good friend Bobby Roode.

Number One Contender match, “Cowboy” James Storm Vs Bully Ray, next.

Christe Hemme is with Mike Straka, host of MMA Uncensored Live, premiering next week on Spike TV.  An interactive show, talking about MMA all over the world.

Eric Young is singing his song to ODB, called “Ode to ODB”.

She liked it.

Our main event, “Cowboy” James Storm Vs Bully Ray, Number One Contender match is up now.

Storm wins the match with a Last Call Superkick.  James celebrates with Brandon Jacobs after the match, celebrating with beer, when Bully Ray knocks down James, then takes Brandon’s beer, and spits in his face.  That is not the right think to do, as Brandon shoves Bully on the ground, and officials break them up.  Top 10 Sportscenter moment, for sure.

Backstage, Storm and Jacobs are talking about coming back next week, and finishing what they started, or something like that.

When we come back, we hear that Sting is making this official, at Lockdown, Bobby Roode Vs “Cowboy” James Storm will headline the show.

Roode responds by low blowing Sting and attacking him.  Warning him this won’t happen, even taking his sunglasses from Sting, and wears them.  Great ending here.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

The Road To Lockdown has begun, and it was the right choice to give us “Cowboy” james Storm Vs Bobby Roode as the main event.  The only negative, and this isn’t a big thing here, but they never should have put the title on James, so when he does win the title, (And I am guessing he will), the win would mean more.

We will also get Jeff Hardy Vs Kurt Angle, in some way.  Whether it’s a one on one match, or a Lethal Lockdown match, you know that is the direction they are going.  That can be fun to watch.

As for tonight’s show, a great start to the new era.  Longer matches, less talking, and more effective shows.  Not sure if we will continue to see that, but it’s a step in the right direction.  Hardy vs Roode was a fun 25-minute match, and ended with around a 20 minute Storm Vs Bully Ray, and Brandon Jacobs part will give TNA some SportsCenter moments there, a Top 10…if you will.

We are set to see Madison Rayne Vs Gail Kim, probably at Victory Road, and that is good too.  Although, they do have the Tag team Titles too, not sure what they will do with that, and TNA set up next week’s show with Magnus and Joe facing Crimson and Morgan in a rematch.  Very good show, what were your thoughts?  Send me an email at or send me your thoughts on the site.

Just goes to show that when they are away from the “Impact Zone” and doing these things live, the quality of the shows goes up..always has..hated to see Velvet lose out to Madison, but sets up an interesting match..

Now that somebody else is booking things, maybe Mr Anderson and RVD will come back from whatever exile they’re a part of..that’s the confusing thing about can wear the belt, as RVD and Anderson have, and then six months later, you’re not even on TV..WTF is that?

Sorry abou the kid..but he’s done with wrestling..can’t see a doctor clearing him from that kind of neck compression..

Well, I believe Mr. Anderson is dealing with a personal matter. He’ll be back, but that is why he isn’t being used. As for RVD, the dude just doesn’t look like his heart is in it. No question though, TNA did not give him a good title run when he was champion, but since then he just doesn’t seemed motivated to wrestle very well.

I have no issue with Madison getting the title shot either, but I hope they start using Velvet a bit better. She is the most marketable Knockout, so why not take advantage of that?

I agree too they need to go on the road a bit more, those shows are so mcuh better, and the crowd seems energized to see them, on camera.

I surely hope the kid is going to be fully recovered to function in life, that comes first. That was a nasty bump he had, and I am glad he is on the road to recovery. That goes to show you that Wrestling can be dangerous at any second.
