WWE Extreme Rules 4/29/12

A big night for WWE, we are live in Chicago, Illinois. It’s Brock Lesnar Vs John Cena, it’s CM Punk Vs Chris Jericho, it’s Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus.  Here we go.

Once again, the PPV subscriber isn’t showing the live pre-show, for some unknown reason.  So I am on WWE.com to give you the first thirty minutes.

Matt Striker and Michael Cole are with us, and we will see The Miz Vs Santino, for the United States Title, here we go.

Santino retained with the Cobra.  Before the match, Miz complained about being on a pre-show, when one year ago, he main evented the PPV.  This has not been a good calendar year for The Miz, and he lost, yet again.

Striker and Cole go through the card for tonight’s show, including The Big Show Vs Cody Rhodes.  They don’t know their stipulation, and they take us backstage with Eve, and Teddy Long, with the two combatants.  Eve brags to us that this was her idea, to spin the wheel, and make the deal.  She has Teddy spin the wheel, and it lands in a Tables match.

So it’s all Teddy’s fault that we will have a Tables match.  Not looking good for Cody.

Video promoting Sheamus Vs Daniel Bryan, tonight, they have a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Now they are showing us video preview to Chris Jericho Vs CM Punk, in a Chicago Street Fight.

Now, Brock Lesnar Vs John Cena, in an Extreme Rules match.

We are four minutes away, here we go.

The PPV starts with a great video on Lesnar Vs Cena.  We are live in Chicago, where Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Booker T welcome us to the show.

We kick the PPV off with Kane Vs Randy Orton, in a Falls Count Anywhere match, now.

Randy Orton wins the match with a RKO on a chair.  This match went everywhere, even backstage where the other wrestlers watch, and Zack Ryder tried to attack Kane, but Kane no-sold it, which is funny for some reason.

Good start to the show.

We go backstage, and see John Laurinaitis and Eve watching the show.  Eve has Teddy bring out the champagne to celebrate “People Power”, John has a phone call, it’s HHH.  He wants to have a talk with Johnny.

Here comes The Funky Funkasaurus.

He is out with Cameron and Naomi, along with Hornswoggle.

Brodus will face Dolph Ziggler, now.

Brodus wins the match with his body splash, Dolph has been losing too much lately.

The Intercontinental Title match is up next.  Tables match between Cody Rhodes Vs Big Show, now.

Cody Rhodes wins the Intercontinental Title again, when Show accidentally stepped through a table that was set up outside.  It’s officially a table break, so Cody won.

After the match, Cody celebrates, but Show chokeslams him through a table.

The crowd wants him to do it one more time, and he obliges, throwing Cody through a table, on the outside.

Matt Striker interviews Daniel Bryan.

Why does he think he has the advantage over Sheamus in tonight’s match?

Daniel says he has more chicks than Sheamus, he has a better beard than Sheamus, and he doesn’t have five pounds of beef in him, like Sheamus.  Sheamus is a lot like the people of Chicago.  They think they are the best, but are both overrated.

Is he better than Sheamus?  Yes!!

Will he defeat Sheamus tonight?  Yes!!

Will he become a 2-time World Heavyweight Champion tonight?  Yes!!  Yes!!  Yes!!  Yes!!

As Daniel walks by, AJ is watching very closely, with a scorned look in her eyes.

Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus in a Best 2 out of 3 Falls match, for the World Heavyweight Title is up now.

Daniel is DQ’d in the first fall by continuously kicking Sheamus in the ribs, and staying away from the 5 count.

Fall 2 is underway.

Daniel Bryan makes Sheamus tap to the Yes Lock, well actually, Sheamus passed out, and the referee stopped the fall.

A doctor asks Sheamus if he wants to continue, and Daniel has the Chicago fans right on the palm of his hands.

Here we go.

Sheamus wins the match with a Brogue Kick.  Very good match with these two men, and I am glad WWE gave them some time.  Easily, the best match of the night so far.

WWE Over The Limit is on Sunday, May 20th.

I guess we will have another bonus match with Ryback against two men.

They are Aaron Relic and Jay Hatton.

Good gravy, more horrible mic work.

Emerald Fusion, that’s all she wrote.  Goldberg chants are blazing through Chi-Town.

Striker is with Chicago’s own CM Punk.

He said that Jericho is more into the psychological part of this match, yet it’s not working.  While Jericho is a sad, little man, he is the best in the world.  He gets to do this ion front of 20,000 of his fans.  Someone is going to wake up with a hang over, and it’s not Punk.  Not because of booze, but because he gets to put Jericho to sleep.

WWE Title, Chicago Street Fight.  Chris Jericho Vs CM Punk, now.

Punk wins the match with a GTS.  I liked this match, but there wasn’t enough of a street fight, but rather just a wrestling match, with a few weapons in between.  But there was a spot where Punk pulled off a “Randy Savage” elbow and put Jericho through a Spanish Announce table, that was cool.  And we also had a spot where Punk had his sister in the front row, Jericho teased her, and she slapped his face.

But where does Jericho go from here?

They show us Santino retaining his United States Title over The Miz.

Eve Torres is backstage, we see Beth Phoenix and The Bella Twins, Eve tells Beth that she is not medically cleared yet.  Eve tells The Bellas that they will have a match, and Nikki’s opponent is a surprise.  But it’s not Kharma, we will find out now.

Nikki tells us that she will the longest running Divas champion in history.

It’s the returning Layla.

Layla counters the Switch-A-Roo when Layla spins Brie around with her neckbreaker, and becomes the new Divas Champion.

Matt Striker interviews John Laurinaitis, he wants to know what HHH had to say, John tells him don’t worry about it, everything will be addressed tomorrow.  Now it’s Lesnar Vs Cena time.

Our main event, and everything we came to see is next.

Here comes the pain.

John Cena defeated Brock Lesnar with a F-U, not an Attitude Adjustment, but a F-U, on Brock right on the steel ramp.

This was a very brutal match, the most brutal match WWE has put on in a long time.  Brock was built like a machine, with Cena playing the babyface, despite half the crowd booing him.  But by the end of the match, the entire crowd was cheering on Cena, so mission accomplished.

They played off an arm injury however to Cena, and I am not sure if this was legit or not.  Earlier in the week, we found out Beth’s injury was not real, but rather a storyline and the WWE is moving forward to storylines like this, according to what Dave Meltzer has said.  But John even said on the mic that he is going to be out for a while, and he puts over the Chicago crowd, and even though this CM Punk’s town, it’s a wrestling town.

Hell of a match here that had Brock dominating most of the match, but John used his chain on Brock’s head, and both men were bleeding, real blood here too.

The show ends with Cena being accompanied to the back.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

This was a very strong PPV, built around one big match, and 2 solid matches.  They did not disappoint, while the wrestling side of the card was Sheamus Vs Daniel Bryan, the real attraction was Brock Vs Cena.  My only question is where do we go from here with Lesnar?  HHH might appear tomorrow night, or it was at least hinted by Laurinaitis.  Perhaps we will see a HHH Vs Lesnar match?  Time will tell, but they did an incredible job of rebuilding Cena, and one way or the other, if it was real or not, he is going to take time off.  If it is real, then I hope he comes back 100%, if it is just a storyline, then he surely has earned the vacation because he has been going nonstop for quite some time.

Why are they featuring this whole Funkasaurs nonsense? That just gets FFD’ on my DVR..nice that it took them almost 18 months to give Shamus and Bryan time to work a good match..they knew they had to let Cena and Lesner go at it..I think they overloaded the servers on the Free Show..it’ll be up on their website..the pre show from Wrestlemania still is..they need to start to repackage Cena…its time to give his character a long rest, and have come back with serious mental issues or something…Chris is headed to a summer tour with Fozzie..you might see Lesner Punk this summer as the main event to SummerSlam…

    • Kevin Gillman says:

I had read the going plans is to have Lesnar Vs Orton at Summerslam. There is already a built in storyline there, when Orton won the WWE Title at Summerslam to become the youngest champion in WWE history.

      • adztheman says:

I can deal with that..what I’m curious to see is if anybody else gets to cut their own promo deals and wear gear with other logos in the ring..what Brock did is cutting edge..and a lot of guys in the back could take advantage if they’re smart..

      • Kevin Gillman says:

Not too sure, but you’re right. You have to think that guys coming in like Rock and Brock, the wrestlers have to approach them, and ask questions. They can only help.

      • adztheman says:

I noticed that the night Brock came back..he’s wearing his own shirts from his UFC days..there are no WWE logos to be found..now if they can can Jimmy Johns to come on board as a WWE sponser, that only helps..although they’ve had Subway on board for years..

The night they had that battle in the ring, where everybody came out..even Shamus and Del Rio, not just the prelim guys..that looked a little too shoot for comfort..watch the expressions on Del Rio’s face..there is supposedly some real heat between Cena and Lesner, and that looked like it had shoot elements, catching some guys by surprise..and notice Undertaker is no where to be found..that’s what I and the world want to see..

That should have been the focus of the first hour of Raw that night…just interview the guys that were out there..forget about that match they had with Zig and Swagger..just keep the momentum building..
