WWE Monday Night Raw 8/6/12…Respect the WWE Champion

We are live in San Antonio, Texas, home of Shawn Michaels.  Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler welcome us to the show.

The Raw General Manager, AJ Lee kicks off the show.  She has a white business suit on, but is skipping to the ring.  Perhaps WWE told her to do some of that stuff?

She is here to make 3 big matches for tonight’s show.  We will see The Big Show go one on one against “The Viper” Randy Orton.  We will also see John Cena face Daniel Bryan, and….

Here comes the WWE Champion, CM Punk.

Punk believes that they started on the wrong foot, and wants to apologize for his actions last week.  He disrespected AJ, and for that, he apologizes.

She accepts his apology, and now Punk wants AJ to do the right thing, and cancel the Triple Threat match at Summerslam, since his odds of winning are slim.

She refuses to do that, she will admit that she will make mistakes, but this is not one of them.  He responds by saying that he is disrespecting the WWE Champion, and here comes John Cena.

Cena said that Punk would be the last person he would think would turn into “that guy”.  You know the kind that would say “I don’t want a triple threat match, it’s not fair”.  Punk said he deserves respect, he is the WWE Champion.  The fans let Cena know how they feel, whether they like him or not, and Cena states he is a 11-time Champion, and not even some of the fans respect him.  But regardless, at Summerslam, Cena will become the new WWE Champion.  Punk said he won’t pin him, he didn’t even beat him at last year’s Summerslam, remember that?  And with Big Show?  He couldn’t even pick up Big Show affectively, because of his bad back last week, so he just saved Cena’s life, you’re welcome.

Cena said he will take care of Big Show, and speaking of which, here he comes.

But AJ cuts him off, and takes control of this show.  Both Show and Cena have matches tonight, so save their strength, and Punk complains that he isn’t even wrestling tonight, but AJ tells him that he is.  So who is his opponent?  She doesn’t know.  The reason why is because the fans will vote in the interactive Twitter poll, between Rey Mysterio, Kane, or The Miz.

And that match is up next, so the WWE Champion kicks off the show, and is afraid of Triple Threat matches, yet, just a few months ago, Punk was fine with a Triple Threat match.  I understand he is being a heel, but it’s bullshit to insult the fans’ intelligence, here.  But whatever.

Tonight, HHH and Brock Lesnar are in the same building, what happens later tonight?  Coming up next, Punk faces an opponent.

It’s going to be Punk Vs Rey Mysterio.

Punk wins with a GTS, after Rey took too long for a Drop a Dime, his leg went up, and down went Rey.  A good match here between the two men.

I love that Punk won the match clean, here.

Tonight, Randy Orton will face The Big Show, one on one, and Daniel Bryan will face John Cena.

Here comes Alberto Del Rio, along with Ricardo Rodriguez.

Alberto has his own parking spot.

A Wade Barrett vignette, and it’s awesome.

Alberto wants to welcome AJ Lee as a Raw General Manager.  He said unlike Booker T, she understands the value of giving ADR the night off, and he won’t have to wrestle until Summerslam.

She said that she has nothing scheduled for him, and Del Rio said they won’t have to worry about anything, and Ricardo said she would do something crazy.

What did you say?

Uh-Oh.

He does have a match, and it’s up next.

Cole confirmed that “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels is here, live.

ADR is facing Christian, now.

Del Rio wins the match with a Cross Arm Breaker, after Ricardo Rodriguez distracted the ref long enough to help Del Rio win.

Del Rio celebrates the win, and we see Sheamus on the Tron.  He brings up that Del Rio said last week on Smackdown that Sheamus was beneath Del Rio, and he’s right.  So perhaps he should start now with the car he drives.  I guess Ricardo forgot the keys in the car when he was trying to get Del Rio’s gear, so he takes it, and will drive around San Antonio.

Coming up next, Randy Orton Vs The Big Show.

Our second big match, Big Show Vs Randy Orton is up now.

A double count out here, with Big Show spearing Orton at the count of 8 outside the ring.

Show puts Orton back into the ring, and sets him up for a WMD, but Orton ducks, and nails the RKO.

Tonight, Brock Lesnar and HHH will go head to head, and HBK is here tonight too.

Reks and Hawkins are in the ring, set for a Handicap match with Ryback, again.

Why?

Ryback destroys both men, again with his Shell Shock Samoan Drop.

Later tonight, Daniel Bryan Vs John Cena.

Our next match is Prime Time Players taking on the Colon Cousins, hashtag, millions of dollars.

Primo and Epico win the match with a Backstabber after AW took his team out of the ring, and the WWE Tag Team Champions, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth make their way to the ring, and the Colon Cousins brought them back in the ring.

They are talking about Damien Sandow, and how he became a martyr after being taken out by DX two weeks ago, and he took out Brodus Clay last week.

Damien is walking to the ring, and Josh Matthews interrupted him, asking him his thoughts for what happened last week.

As the intellectual savior to the masses, and our martyr, he is here to do away with such foolishness, as people who dance, so he is taking out Brodus Clay, tonight.  You’re welcome.

Brodus Clay Vs Damien Sandow, next.

Raw, episode number 1,002, with Brodus Clay making his way to the ring, Damien attacks Brodus, and clips his knee.

Damien laid out Brodus, and said you’re welcome.  Brodus did this to himself.

AJ is backstage, pandering something.  It’s Daniel Bryan.  Even though he was deemed as sane by the psychological evaluation, he still has some anger management issues.

Daniel suggests that perhaps it’s because she left him at the altar?  But he does agree with one thing, he agrees with setting up the one on one match with John Cena tonight, so he can turn the Summerslam match into a Fatal 4-Way match.

AJ informs Daniel that he already has a match at Summerslam, against Kane.

No!!

Yes!!

No!!

Yes!!

No!!

Silence….

Yes!!

We come back with some diva action.  Eve Torres is facing the returning Kelly Kelly.

Kelly wins with a Hurrancarana, and a roll up.

Earlier tonight, we see Sheamus taking Alberto Del Rio’s car for a spin.

Sheamus has touted from the car in San Antonio.

Tonight, Brock Lesnar and HHH are in the same building.

Coming up next, HBK is back.

We are 2 weeks away from the 25th annual Summerslam, and they are having a Summerslam Axxess.

“The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels is out now, welcome back Shawn.

I forgot, he was here 2 weeks ago, but this time he is by himself, and not representing DX.  But who cares?  He can show up every week.  He is an ICON.

Shawn wants to thank WWE for bringing him back 2 weeks ago with the reunion of DX.  He is here, and he sees new faces in the back, but at the end of the day, they are talking about the same thing.  The confrontation between HHH and Brock Lesnar at Summerslam.  People are asking what HBK thinks.

Here comes Brock Lesnar, Here Comes The Pain.

Paul Heyman is with Brock, and Heyman isn’t surprised that everyone is asking for Shawn’s opinion over HHH Vs Brock Lesnar, because Shawn is the greatest in-ring entertainer of all time.  And under any other circumstances, they might ask him his view too, but not in this case.  Brock is not an entertainer, he doesn’t care about being Mr. Wrestlemania, or The Game, he is here to show he is baddest dude on the planet.

Shawn isn’t here to deny Brock’s attributes, and Heyman interrupts him, but Shawn says don’t put words into his mouth.  Against any other guy, he would agree that Brock can take anyone out, but Brock did the one thing you never should do, and that is to go after his family.  But here in this case, he takes HHH, and in fact, at Summerslam, he will be in his corner.

Heyman said that is the moment they will look at as HHH’s career ender.  The moment in time where we will see that is HHH’s downfall, because his best friend will see it, even his family will see Brock destroy HHH’s career, and there is nothing they can do about it.

See, HBK had a choice to step out of the ring, HHH will not.

Brock makes it clear that HBK has never been in the ring with Brock, until now.

Here comes HHH, and Brock smiles, leaves the ring, grabs the mic and says he will see HHH at Summerslam, and for Shawn, he will see him before Summerslam.

Earlier tonight, Sheamus borrowed Alberto Del Rio’s car.

Sheamus left us some touts.

He is at The Alamo.

Alex Riley is in the ring, and we have Chris Jericho at commentary.

Alex is facing Dolph Ziggler.

Alex Riley wins with a roll up, after Jericho distracts Ziggler, and takes a picture of him, posted it on Twitter.  Jericho said that Ziggler says he can’t win the big one, but Ziggler can’t even win the small one.

Harsh, but true.

There is a tweet from the General Manager that said tonight, we will see The Miz Vs Kane, the other two men that weren’t chosen to face CM Punk, and that match is up next.

More Touts from Sheamus, he spilled some Mexican food in ADR’s car.

Kane Vs The Miz, now.

Kane won the match with a Chokeslam, and coming up next, John Cena Vs Daniel Bryan.

Sheamus brings back ADR’s car, and it’s totaled.

Our main event, Daniel Bryan Vs John Cena, now.

Before the match starts, Del Rio is irate over his condition of his car, and blames this on Ricardo Rodriguez, and telling him he has to clean it.

This Friday Night on Smackdown, The Highlight reel returns, with Chris Jericho’s guest?  Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero.

Now, the match begins.

Cena wins the match with an Attitude Adjustment.

Enter CM Punk.

Punk and Cena go face to face, with Punk holding the WWE Title.  Cena tells him he’s coming for it, and here comes Big Show, Cena shoves Punk aside, and goes after Show.  Cena has him for the Attitude Adjustment, but Punk knocks both of them down, with Show landing on top of Cena.

Punk then gets on the headset and tells King that perhaps Cena was right, maybe the reason people don’t respect him is because he allowed it.  He did all of the right things, shake hands, kiss babies, and smile, but where did it get him?  Disrespected, which is why Raw will end the same way it has the last two weeks, with Punk standing top, holding the WWE Title.

He goes back into the ring, and tries that, but Show gets up, and knocks both Punk, and Cena out.  So Big Show ends tonight’s show, standing on top of the mountain.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

A much more enjoyable show tonight that featured more matches, and less talking.  Which usually works, because the talking means more.  The first match, and the last match were the best, obviously.  The first time on Live TV, John Cena faced Daniel Bryan, and the thing is 5 years ago, people would laugh about that thought, even a year ago, but Daniel has been given an opportunity, and truly took off with it.  He has become a better performer, not just in the ring, but also on the mic too.

I also had no issue with the ending, because after all, the three men must get their shine, which more than likely means that next week, Cena will stand tall too.

I also loved the HBK-Lesnar-HHH segment too.  Brock’s bit about meeting HBK before Summerslam added something to the upcoming HHH-Lesnar match.

We finally saw some Divas tonight, although the Divas champion was absent, again.

Overall, a fun show that didn’t seem to drag, what were your thoughts on the show?  Send them here.

I FFWD through much of the second hour..Brutus Clay is a waste of human flesh, and Sandow is coming into his own..A-J looked cute tonight…They need to do something with her hair..

They concentrated more on wrestling in this episode, and the show had a better flow as a result..maybe they can carry off three hours…
