Impact Wrestling 1/19/12…Who’s The Number One Contender?
January 19, 2012 2 Comments
We see footage of what took place last week on Impact, when Bully Ray interfered in the match against Jeff Hardy. So where do we go from here? Let’s tune in and find out.
Here comes the brand new Number One Contender, “Cowboy” James Storm.
It feels good to be back in the Impact Zone, as the Number One Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. Kurt Angle, you are the best Wrestler in the world, but on one night, James Storm was just a little bit better, and now it’s time for Against All Odds. Bobby Roode, you will face James man on man, and eye to eye, because he is about to kick your ass. And sorry about your damn….
Here comes “The Charismatic Enigma”, Jeff Hardy.
Hardy said he got screwed at the PPV, he got screwed last week, and sorry James, but you won’t get a title shot until he gets a fair chance.
James said he remembers just a few months ago that he was screwed out of the World Heavyweight Title, and as much screwing as Bobby has been doing, he sure has alot of child support to pay for.
Here comes Bobby Roode.
According to Bobby that even though James won his match last week against Kurt, since his match with Jeff was a no contest, then his stipulation is null and void. But Jeff has tried a few times, and has failed both times, so no title match for him either.
But here comes Sting.
Sting said that Bobby found a loophole in the contract last week, instead of getting DQ’d, he had Bully Ray DQ Hardy for him, so he could keep his title. But we will fix that, tonight we will have a Number One Contenders match with who? Hmmm…let’s see, how about Jeff Hardy, and “Cowboy” James Storm? Tah-Tah, for now.
Still to come, Madison Rayne Vs Mickie James, inside a steel cage.
When we come back, Angelina Love is disgusted over Eric Young touching her last week, so she issues a challenge against him tonight, and keep your “boyfriend” ODB out of ringside.
Our first match is Gunner taking on AJ Styles.
Gunner defeated AJ with a DDT, after Daniels forced Kazarian to trip AJ on the ropes, Gunner tried to give AJ a Piledriver on the outside floor, but AJ caught him in time to avoid the bump.
Magnus is ready for his match with Crimson. Crimson approaches Magnus, and asks him if he’s ready, because they could do it now. They are facing each other tonight.
Bully Ray is backstage with Sting, telling him he needs a “favah” and that “favah” is to get a World Heavyweight Title shot, since he has been “undefeated” and all. Sting says no, but he needs to make an appointment next time he wants to speak with him.
Crimson Vs Magnus is up now.
Crimson defeated Magnus with a Red Sky, and here comes Joe to beat him down. Morgan comes in for the save, but the Tag Team challengers lay out the champs, and send a message.
Earlier today, Eric Young doesn’t want to fight a woman, he wants to join Bellator Fighting Group, ODB comes over and encourages him to fight her. All of the boys in the back would think bad if he backs down from a challenge, more hi-jinks involved.
Number One Contender match for the World Heavyweight Title….James Storm Vs Jeff Hardy is tonight.
Last Thursday, Bischoff Vs Bischoff.
Who is Garrett’s new trainer? Video footage of Garrett training is being shown.
He can’t wait to get back to the Impact Zone, and he can’t wait to see Dad’s face on who is training him. He’ll see us soon.
Knockout video now showcasing Mickie James Vs Madison Rayne.
Madison is freaking out, with Gail saying she has her back, everything will be fine, just go out there and do what you do best. Their cage match is up next.
Mickie James Vs Madison Rayne, inside a steel cage match is up now, and Earl Hebner kicked Gail Kim out of ringside.
Mickie James defeated Madison Rayne with her DDT.
A-Double, Austin Aries is headed to the ring next, with having something to say, and we will enjoy it, because he is A-Double….Austin Aries.
Mickie James is celebrating her win with Tara and Velvet Sky, now she wants the Knockout Title from Gail Kim, despite having a hurt knee.
Jeff Hardy is preparing to go against James Storm, and hopefully faces Bobby Roode for the title.
Austin Aries is the greatest man alive, and he’ll tell you that. He had a big win at Genesis, over three different men. He is ready to celebrate.
Here comes the X-Division Champion, A-Double….Austin Aries. He has done this before, but he’ll say it again, there is nobody in the X-Division that is in his league.
The crowd chants you suck, and he replies if he sucks so much, then why does he still hold the X-Division Title.
Now the crowd chants for him, and he says he doesn’t need the chants, he knows how great he is. Nobody in the back can do what he can do, and perhaps it’s time that he goes into his yacht, and search for competition.
Enter Alex Shelley.
Alex missed us, and we return the favor. He didn’t miss Austin so much though. A year ago, Alex separated his shoulder, he was out for four months, and the day he comes back, his Motor City Machinegun tag team partner, Chris Sabin blew out his MCL. So we were deprived of no Guns until 2012. But at the end of the day, since Alex was a little kid, all he has thought about is Wrestling….Wrestling…Wrestling…Punk Rock….Wrestling….Wrestling….Wrestling….Video Games…Wrestling, etc.
Alex thought he’d sit out until his partner, Chris Sabin can heal and come back, because he knows we all need the Guns back, especially in the tag team division. Amen to that, but as far as he is concerned, Austin can’t beat the piss out of a urine-soaked sponge.
Austin isn’t impressed, aren’t there any men in the back, challenging him for the title?
Sabin gave Alex his blessing to go after the X-Division Title, but Austin said it’s too bad Chris isn’t here, because he has been riding on his coattails for years.
If Alex is no threat, then he shouldn’t have any issue putting the title up against him?
Austin said you earn a title match, just like everyone else. Alex goes to the back, pick one guy, if he beats him, he will defend the title against Alex.
Alex wants Austin to choose the opponent, then he will go after Austin’s title at Against All Odds.
Excellent promo.
ODB is in the back, and she wants him to rip out Angelina’s stuff….Bam!!! But Winter attacks ODB from behind, and the fight is on.
Winter chokes out ODB, and when we come back, Angelina Love Vs Eric Young. Oh boy.
After some comedy, and EY not touching Angelina, Angelina is DQ’d for nailing Eric down under. Winter and Angelina stomp EY, but here comes ODB to the rescue.
And then they kiss.
And Eric Young gives us the Ric Flair strut, which is funny.
James Storm is outside with Jasin Hervey, it’s his time now. He helped build the company from the ground floor up, it’s his time to be the man. Hell yeah.
Jeff Hardy Vs “Cowboy” James Storm is up, next.
And of course, this match ends in a…you guessed it….a no contest.
Bully Ray laid out the ref, and both men. Sting tries to help out, but Bully Ray lays him out too, and Bobby Roode came into the ring to announce neither man is a Number One Contender, and this is how the show ends.
Kevin’s Thoughts:
Another huge main event, ending the same way, with no winner. I see a disturbing trend in Wrestling, not just in TNA, but WWE too, and that is no contests. They think it sells, but it does absolutely nothing for anyone involved. James Storm Vs Bobby Roode is a money feud, that can sell, and will be used more than likely at Lockdown. Bobby Roode Vs Jeff Hardy was a good match, but the ending killed any momentum they had. So why not add Bully Ray to the mix? Winner takes all, and takes home the gold. So let’s build to that, instead of giving us crappy endings?
I also have the exception to how they brought up Impact being in England. Why not put the energy into making the announcement into a video, and bring it up huge, rather than Mike Tenay give us a voiceover and using that as information?
Some things I did like….
Nice to see Alex Shelley back in action, and I am looking forward to his match next week, and even into Against All Odds.
Mickie James Vs Madison Rayne was a fun and brutal cage match between the two ladies, and the celebration backstage made it more enjoyable.
Gunner Vs AJ, I know Gunner used a cheap finish here, but at least he pinned AJ, and now we will find out what is going on with Christopher Daniels and Kazarian.
Things I did Not Like:
Angelina Lovs Vs Eric Young. I am not a fan of a man putting his arms and wrestle a woman. Although in the end, ODB was able to get what she wanted, and that’s to slap a kiss on his face. Bam!!
No Contest matches, this is a no-brainer. If you are heavily invested in these matches, then give the fans want they want, a final outcome, at the lease something they can build on.
Overall, a mixed show with no end in sight, heading into the Against All Odds PPV. Next week, we need to have a few of the match Set, I believe. Give us a direction, especially when the main event is concerned.
