WWE Hell in a Cell 10/3/10

I was having some issues with my HD PPV today, so I decided to order this show on the regular PPV channel, and yup, I tune in at 7:45 PM Eastern and see that the HD problems are fine now.  But I don’t care today, because my Cleveland Browns won their 1st game of the season, and anytime the Browns win, it’s a good Sunday, so here we go.  Welcome to Hell in a Cell.

I am hoping we get another match or two, so far the count is 5 matches.  We’ll more than likely see 1 more.

Michael Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler, and Matt Striker welcome us to the show.

US Triple Threat match will kick off the show.  Daniel Bryan (C) Vs John Morrison Vs The Miz will kick off the show.

By the way, this is a first time ever Falls count anywhere Submission match.

The Miz with the mic, he doesn’t like the rules.  He is the mentor of both of them, and people wouldn’t know them if it wasn’t for him.  But without them, he’d still be a huge star in WWE.  The Miz has IT, he has star quality, and after tonight, he will have the United States Championship.  He never tapped out, because he is The Miz, and he is awesome.

Despite Daniel’s crappy music, he retained the US Title by making The Miz tap out to the Labell Lock in a very good match to open the show.  We saw many other submission moves, including The Texas Cloverleaf, that Dean Malenko used to use by John Morrison.  When John locked it on, Miz was on the verge of tapping, but Alex Riley came out and attacked John on the ramp.  Daniel Bryan shoved Alex off the ramp, and locked on The LaBell Lock for the win.  This was Daniel’s best match in the WWE in my opinion, putting him over strongly.  In fact, it’s possible we might see The Miz cash in later on his Money in the Bank briefcase and cash in to become the new WWE Champion.

Strike that, we might actually have the WWE Title match up next, wow.  Yup, we are, so we are ending the show with Undertaker Vs Kane.

Randy Orton (C) defending his WWE Title up against Sheamus, next.

Randy retained his WWE Title with an awesome RKO off the steel step.  Here’s the thing though, this should have just been a street fight.  Since there is no blood anymore, you can’t have a Hell in a Cell match, because in order for that match to be effective, you need blood.  There were some spots though that made this a good match.  In fact, this was their best match they have had on PPV between the two men this year.  No doubt about it, we had a winner.  We seen 2 RKOs, 2 Brogue Kicks, 1 Celtic Cross, 2 DDTs.  At the end of the match, Randy celebrated his win going up to the top of the cage.  Now there must be a new contender in my view because this feud ended with a decisive winner.  No HHH though, which makes it possible we will see another match.  I just don’t see a new challenger anytime soon.

Josh Matthews is backstage, and we have the NXT Season 3 rookies.  Good gravy.  He asks them all how nervous are they about being eliminated this Tuesday.  NEXUS interrupts the fun though.  Wade Barrett said there is something in the air, he can feel it.  Josh reminds him that if any NEXUS member interferes in the match, Wade will automatically lose.  Wade is aware it, and he doesn’t like it, but he can beat John all by himself, and tomorrow night, they will have a special present for John…a NEXUS arm band.

Alberto Del Rio makes his PPV debut, by gracing us with his presence, Ricardo Rodriguez agrees with us.

Alberto reminds us he erased that “little Chihuahua” and they show the footage from Smackdown.  He erased us from Christian, and now he wants to know who is next for him to challenge?

He says he is richer than Mark Cuban, more talented than Nolan Ryan, and more handsome than Tony Romo.

You think you know me?

Edge comes out to a decent pop.  He says he is here not to defend Rey Mysterio or Christian, but he is here to stop stupid things.  That little Chihuahua is stupid.  That little scarf that looks like a blanket is stupid.

Alberto asks what Edge is trying to imply.

Edge said that Alberto is El Stupido.

Del Rio and Edge start to fight, but Jack Swagger comes out, he says what is stupid is a Mexican and a Canadian on a WWE ring fighting, while the All American-American isn’t wrestling.  Jack also said that Edge speared a real human being Friday night and he should pay for the medical costs.

Edge said he will do that, and he’ll also pay Ricardo’s and his, and goes after Alberto, Jack Swagger fights him too and there is a 2 on 1 attack until…

Email Sound…

What?  On a PPV???  Yes, indeed the Raw GM has an announcement…and I quote.

Tomorrow night on Raw, Edge will apologize to the Raw GM on a better, more state of the art computer, and tonight, Edge will face Jack Swagger right now.

There is the extra match.

Edge Vs “The All American-American” Jack Swagger.

Edge wins with the Spear.  The crowd doesn’t know how to take Edge.  Is he a face?  Is he a heel?  Regardless, when he did the spear, the crowd enjoyed that, but honestly the crowd took away from the match a bit.  Plus I am still trying to figure out how or why the Raw GM made an appearance.

NEXUS is backstage, minus Wade Barrett.  David Otunga has a plan, and they need to trust him.  NEXUS must stick together,

John Cena Vs Wade Barrett, Cena’s spot in NEXUS Vs the disbandment of NEXUS is up next.

Wow, I am shocked.  Wade Barrett defeated John Cena with some interference from two men that are not NEXUS, or are they?  This was an incredible match and John Cena made Wade look like a million bucks.  John gets nailed with something from behind by a “fan” and Wade made the pin.  Another “fan” tried to get in, but the ref stopped them, we also had the entire WWE roster come out and beat down the other NEXUS members from attempting to interfere, and because of this, John Cena made NEXUS relevant again.  I can’t wait to see where this goes, and I might have to buy a T-shirt yet.

Josh Matthews is in the boiler room, trying to interview Paul Bearer.  Josh asks him he has been absent for 6 years, why return now?  Paul said his son Kane thinks he had a master plan, but he too had a master plan and even if he is The Devil’s Favorite Son, he will always be the Father of Destruction.  He looks very good, losing alot of weight.  I am glad Paul is back.

Here comes the Beautiful People, I mean Lay-Cool.  WWE Diva’s Title match between Michelle McCool (C) taking on Natalya is up next.

Natalya won the match by DQ when Layla threw a shoe at Natalya.  I am not joking, she threw a shoe, and for that, Michelle gets DQ’d.  The one thing I will say about this match is Natalya used the Sharpshooter, Michelle wouldn’t tap, but she reversed the hold and made it into a Single Four Leglock (Or is it Single Two Leglock?), Natalya reversed it and used the Sharpshooter again, and that is when Layla threw her shoe.  Short match, it was what it was.

Main event, Hell in a Cell match, Kane (C) vs The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Title.

Kane retained the World Heavyweight Title when Paul Bearer turned on The Undertaker and gave Kane the Urn.  Kane then gave Taker a Chokeslam and pinned him.  Not exactly sending the same message as Night of Champions, when Kane pinned Taker clean with the Tombstone Piledriver, but I guess Paul is upset that Taker buried him in sand back in 2004, go figure.  There was blood, accidentally, on Kane’s head.  There also was a mysterious ref bump, where he passed out, I think ,and we have another turn, leaving fans bewildered.  Decent match, but a weird ending.

Kevin’s Thoughts:

Hell in a Cell is supposed to be the final ending to a feud, a final cement to matches where we go to the next chapter and see new feuds.  It seems we have the ending of one, but not the other.  Let me say this, I certainly think having 2 Hell in a Cell matches on a PPV defeats its purpose.  But, we had 3 very good matches.

The best to me was Cena Vs Barrett.  Not just because of the result, but the two worked very well together.  I only hope Cena can truly get behind this angle and make it work.  Not just sugar coat things.  but truly make this storyline worth every penny.  So far, I loved seeing the kids that were in the crowd, they truly looked horrified about the thought, like they did back in the day when Hulk Hogan was getting pummeled by a heel.

I also enjoyed the opening match, they made Daniel Bryan look like a million bucks, and it was something that had to be done.  I applaud WWE for doing that, and once again a very fun match.

The first Hell in a Cell was good too, just a straight up street fight that had everything thrown together.  Maybe this is when they elevate The Miz to the next program and have he and Orton feud?

The second Hell in a Cell was fine, but just a weird ending to me.  We all kind of figured that the feud would continue, but I will wait and hear the explanation until I offer my viewpoint of it.  The match was fine though, but very different from other Undertaker Hell in a Cell matches.

Edge Vs Jack Swagger was misplaced to me though because it didn’t make any sense that Jack Swagger agreed to the match that was ordered by the Raw GM.  Couldn’t we at least have a Teddy Long sighting to order it, playa?

The Diva’s Title was fine, but certainly the least interesting match on the card, and that includes Edge Vs Swagger.

Overall, a solid show with 3 great matches, 1 good, and 2 okay matches.  I guess we go to Bragging Rights from here, so the shows should start to promote that, as early as tomorrow.  It gives them 3 weeks at least to build.  What were your thoughts on the show?  Email me at DJKevinGillman75@aol.com or drop me a line on the site.
